Falling down is really good. Really good. and considering that its about a guy having a violent mental breakdown, its really funny.

What do you all reckon is better? apocalypse now or platoon?

can you believe im actually looking forward to watching final destination 2?

Good movie [02 Mar 2003|06:33pm]

I just saw a good movie last night called "Quills." It's an indie film with Geoffrey Rush, Joaquin Phoenix, Kate Winslet, and Michael Caine. It's about the famous French writer the Marquis de Sade, who just after the French Revolution began writing and secretly publishing from his cell in an insane asylum. Very, very good movie. I was under the impression that it was extremely graphic and disturbing, and it was quite disturbing and a bit graphic, but it didn't leave me dissapointed. It was also a bit funny, in a crude way. In any case, very good movie, highly reccomend it.

Great Movie [18 Feb 2003|08:50am]

I just saw a great movie for the first time yesterday. I would have seen it sooner, but I hadn't been able to rent it any earlier. I was "Requiem for a Dream." I'm sure many of you have seen it, but I thought I'd share it anyway. But when I went to talk to my friend who sent the file to me online, I just couldn't find a way to put into words how I felt about what I just saw. That had never happened to me before. He simply replied by saying, "That's exactly my point."

I've a few films I prefer myself, though I like a lot of different kinds. Here's a list of some of my tops that you may be interested in, though many have been mentioned here.

Sleepy Hollow
SLC Punk!
Trans
Rocky Horror Picture Show
Pulp Fiction
From Hell
The Exorcist
The Shining
Monster's Ball
The Ninth Gate
Black Hawk Down
Appocalypse Now
The Fifth Element
The Count of Monte Cristo

I have many many more, but I won't list them all here. I also have a lot of favorites that have no violence and are not sanguine.

minireviews. as promised.
way of the gun
yeah, this was pretty good. written and directed chris mcquarrie, writer of the usual suspects. its not as good as the usual suspects, but still reasonably good. LOTS of random shooting, and one of the funniest openings i have seen for a long time...

sleepy hollow
tim burton "does" horror. yeah, its actually very funny. johnny depp is really good as ichabod crane. christopher walken is great as the headless horseman. (but when he has a head. when he doesnt have a head hes played by some stunt guy in a blue mask...) apparently its based on some old short story or novel or something... but its still actually good!

the game
from the director of se7en and fight club (and panic room and *ahem* aliens 3) comes the game, a sinister...film, starring michael douglas. im not really sure what category to put this movie in. its a sort of thriller, without much thrill... its very competently directed, and compelling, but the ending is kind of a rip off... eh. its ok. but not as good as se7en or fight club. or panic room actually...

yeah. more later... maybe

Natural born killers is a good film as well. but the front cover confuses me. it has woody harrelson with his shaved head and his glasses, but by the time he shaves his head in the film, hasnt he lost his glasses? anyway, you never see him with the shaved head and the cool glasses...
the DVD extras are pretty good as well. the alternate ending is pretty cool.
